Hey!
Thanks for being a member, this is the first post (and first to be successfully hidden from the regular blog posts.. I think!)
Here’s a list of resources I use on a regular basis. You may not fully be able to understand or use everything that is listed, that’s okay! I will keep adding to this list as a find more and more resources.
http://www.habitbull.com/ – I use this app myself and with clients to track HABITS, its very difficult to make new habits without assessing progress.
https://www.myfitnesspal.com/ – Food tracking app, it calculates calories, the paid version will give you more.
http://www.fitnotesapp.com/ – An app for Android, this is currently the only workout log I use with all clients, incredibly useful for tracking weights/sets/reps/time/distance, basically all training metrics, as well as setting goals, tracking your body measurements and setting goals for that too.
https://seehowyoueat.com/ – A photo-based food tracking app, incredibly useful and available on both iPhone and Android. If you’re not big on measuring each individual nutrient this can be very helpful for knowing where you’re going right (or wrong) with your food intake.
https://youate.com/ – Another food tracking app, this one is based more on the emotions and environment that surrounds your individual eating habits, are you eating because you’re hungry, or because you’re upset?
https://www.nutritionvalue.org/ – This is a free website that will assess the nutritional value of your meals, everything from protein (each individual amino acid quantity) as well as the same for carbs/fats and vitamins, minerals, give it a go! It should spike your interest in nutrition and they helpfully link the Wikipedia for each chemical/nutrient so you can know its function in the body – (very helpful if you track them – know the quantity etc)
https://www.facebook.com/OptimumFitnessResults/ – This is my facebook page, sometimes I post helpful tips.
https://examine.com/ – A scientific and non-biased assessment of supplements and nutrition.
https://www.bda.uk.com/foodfacts/home – Uk Dietetics association, facts about foods, healthy eating etc.
https://optimumfitnessresults.ie/fittipfriday-newsletter/ – My newsletter, definitely sign up to this, I send emails once a week at best but keep them as helpful as possible.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjqWzFIQNjc&list=PLHkA_QvojLMjSKGj9zTz6HbVd3OyBXEAW&index=6&t=0s – What 200 calories look’s like.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CdwWliv7Hg&index=2&list=PLHkA_QvojLMjSKGj9zTz6HbVd3OyBXEAW&t=39s – calorie density – This is a long video but very valuable.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjqWzFIQNjc&list=PLHkA_QvojLMjSKGj9zTz6HbVd3OyBXEAW&index=6&t=0s – The science of fat loss – Also a very interesting video and interesting youtube channel.
https://www.calculator.net/body-fat-calculator.html – Body Fat Calculator
https://www.mytecbits.com/tools/medical/absi-calculator – A Body Shape Index (Updated version of BMI to include waist measurement)
https://www.healthyweightforum.org/eng/calculators/waist-height-ratio/ – Calculate Risk of Heart Disease, Diabetes, Stroke
https://www.calculator.net/bmi-calculator.html – BMI calculator (not a great measurement when very muscular but good for the general population)
https://www.calculator.net/calorie-calculator.html – Calorie Calculator, helpful for calculating how many calories to eat daily.
https://www.calculator.net/bmr-calculator.html – Basal Metabolic Rate Calculator – How many calories you burn at rest (more muscle/weight will increase this, very useful for weight loss)
https://www.calculator.net/ideal-weight-calculator.html – Ideal weight calculator – Where your weight should be to be in an ideal and proposed healthy range based on your height and age.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ob5i7jX9gN4&list=PLHkA_QvojLMjl-rS9YgsgE7CsNSbAI2BW&index=23&t=419s – How to hip hinge like a boss – Everyone I’ve trained so far has had trouble with this, this is a good resource for improving what is a fundamental movement.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC68TLK0mAEzUyHx5x5k-S1Q – Science based exercise channel.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXrqErU_TjqiHAHJkzITAvg – Another science-based exercise channel.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe0TLA0EsQbE-MjuHXevj2A – Another science-based exercise channel.
